- Smokey Bear Honorary Member of SuperPack XLVI
- On October 19th, 2011, the world-famous bear named Smokey visited our Holy Spirit Cub Scout Pack with some of his friends from Lieber State Park, located near Cloverdale, IN. His friends told the true story of Smokey and how he became the worldwide symbol for Fire Safety and Forest and Wildfire Prevention, now the longest running PSA in US history of over 60 years. Then the famous bear greeted all of the Scouts and their families and helped them learn more about fire and outdoor safety, as well as giving each Scout a bear-hug and an excellent photo-op. Smokey and his friends were very generous with our group, not only with their time, but with many reminders of their visit with us. To demonstrate our gratitude, we presented Smokey with a gift. It was a Certificate of Scouting Appreciation to SMOKEY BEAR for his having served for over 60 years as the symbol of Forest Fire Prevention. Smokey was then officially granted honorary membership of Holy Spirit Cub Scout SuperPack XLVI, in the BEAR DEN, of course! Special Thanks to the Taylor Family of the Bear Den for suggesting, inviting, and arranging the visit from Smokey Bear, which all in attendance greatly enjoyed and appreciated.
